Our Story

Rooted in Craft,
Composed with Heart

Swan & Thyme began the way all meaningful things do — not with a business plan, but with an instinct. An eye for beauty that couldn't stay quiet.

Composed, Never Assembled

Every arrangement is designed as a singular work — each stem chosen not just for its colour, but for how it converses with the one beside it. We don't follow templates. We compose.

A Chef's Sensibility

Our founder trained as a chef before she turned to floristry. That discipline — the instinct for balance, the attention to texture and form — lives in every arrangement we make.

Not Your Everyday Flowers

You won't find our arrangements at a grocery store. Each one is sourced, designed, and hand-finished to a standard that treats floristry as what it is: a form of fine art.

The Beginning

From a Kitchen in Cambodia to
an Atelier in Houston

Vidana Vong grew up in Cambodia, where food was the first language of care. Cooking for family wasn't a chore — it was an act of love, a way of saying what words couldn't. She learned early that the way something is presented matters as much as what it contains. A plate wasn't just nourishment. It was an offering.

When she moved to the United States, she brought that sensibility with her. She built a career as a chef, refining her eye for composition, colour, and the kind of beauty that feels effortless but isn't. Every dish she plated was a small act of design — balancing warmth with precision, abundance with restraint.

But there was something else, too. For years, friends and family noticed a quiet talent — the way Vidana could walk into a room and transform it. A birthday dinner that felt like a secret garden. A baby shower where every detail whispered instead of shouted. She had a gift for setting a scene, and it always started with flowers.

What began as a favour for friends became something she couldn't ignore. The same instincts she'd spent years developing in the kitchen — an understanding of how colour, texture, and negative space create feeling — translated directly into floral design. She wasn't arranging flowers. She was composing them.

Swan & Thyme was born from that crossing point: the precision of a trained chef, the warmth of a woman who believes beauty should be generous, and the courage of an immigrant who chose to build something new on her own terms. Today, Vidana continues to study her craft — training with Houston's finest florists and preparing for an intensive floral immersion program in Spain this summer — because the work is never finished when you love what you do.

The Founder

A Chef's Eye,
a Florist's Hands

The transition from kitchen to atelier wasn't a departure — it was an evolution. Vidana's years as a chef taught her to see composition the way a painter sees a canvas: every element in conversation, every negative space intentional.

That training shows in her work. Where most florists think in terms of colour, Vidana thinks in terms of feeling — the mood a room should hold when someone walks in, the emotion a bouquet should carry when it arrives at a door. She sources blooms the way she once sourced ingredients: seasonally, thoughtfully, and never from a catalogue.

As a Cambodian immigrant and woman-owned business, Swan & Thyme carries something more than craft. It carries the belief that beauty is a form of care — and that the most meaningful gestures are the ones made by hand.

I learned in the kitchen that people don't remember what you made — they remember how it made them feel. Flowers are the same. They're not decoration. They're a language.

What Sets Us Apart

01

Sourced with Intention

We work with the same growers who supply fine florists across the Americas and Europe. Every stem is selected for its form, colour, and longevity — never pulled from a bulk shipment.

02

Designed, Not Replicated

No two Swan & Thyme arrangements are identical. Each is composed by hand to a concept — a colour story, a mood, an occasion — not pulled from a template or repeated from a catalogue.

03

The Chef's Standard

Vidana brings a chef's discipline to every piece: the pursuit of balance, the obsession with freshness, the refusal to serve anything she wouldn't proudly put her name behind.

04

Always Learning

Craft is a living practice. Vidana trains continuously — studying under Houston's master florists and preparing for an intensive floral immersion in Spain — because the work deserves nothing less.
